SHULLSBURG, Wis. – Nearly all employees at a Wisconsin farmer-owned co-op’s Shullsburg facilities are losing their jobs.
Two separate layoff notices filed by Prairie Farms Dairy indicate the layoffs will include the permanent closure of both Shullsburg Creamery and White Hill cheese production facility. Some of the layoffs began July 20, with the second round planned for August 14.
Just under 100 employees in total will be laid off, while a handful will remain on staff while operations wind down.
Prairie Farms says the employees are not union members, and are therefore not subject to “bumping rights” which allow employees with more seniority to assume the roles of less tenured colleagues.
