FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. — The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s office resumes the investigation into the disappearance of a child from the Village of Campbellsport from 1983.
Robert “Bobby Joe” Fritz was just five years old when he was last seen playing outside with his siblings between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on May 14, 1983.
At the time, investigators says he was last wearing a red, blue, and gray shirt, blue pants and boots.

On July 16, 2026, the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office detectives executed a new search warrant on the home where Fritz was living when he went missing.
“During the search, potential evidence related to the case was located,” said Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt in a statement to 620 WTMJ. “As a result of those findings, a larger scale excavation is currently taking place inside the basement of the home. Detectives are currently working in coordination with agents from the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation and the Crime Lab to identify, collect, and process any additional evidence that may be located.”
