WEST ALLIS, Wis. —  West Allis Police tased and arrested a man after a home break-in and armed standoff that lasted for 40 minutes on Monday afternoon.

Officers responded near 76th St. and Orchard St. at 2:20 p.m. on July 20, where a caller reported a man pounding on his door saying he needs help and that someone is trying to kill him.

The man then walked away from the first home, and another caller reported the man had smashed a window and entered another home.

No one else was inside the home, and officers saw the man had armed himself with a knife. When they tried to speak to him, the man told officers that he had a gun.

The man ignored officers’ commands to exit the home for about 40 minutes. He then exited the home while still armed with the knife and continued ignoring officers’ commands. Officers then used less-than-lethal munitions and a taser to arrest him. He was taken to the hospital for medical clearance.

Officers heard what may have been gunfire when the window of the home broke, but West Allis Police have not confirmed if a shot was fired.

No officers were injured.
