MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is closing all summer programming on Friday, July 17 due to the Air Quality Alert as wildfire smoke blankets Wisconsin.
All classes, indoor activities and outdoor activities at Summer Academy, Extended Learning Opportunity and Milwaukee Recreation sites are cancelled.
Summer meals will also be unavailable at all MPS schools and MKE REC sites.
MPS has extended the Summer Academy session by one day to accommodate coursework missed during the heat-related closures earlier this week and allow for make-up time, but the district does not plan to add further make-up days due to Friday’s closures. The Summer Academy session is scheduled to end on July 31.
The district expects to resume normal operations on Monday.
