MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A suspect connected to the shooting death of a Milwaukee alderman’s nephew is now in custody.
37-year-old Martell Haire was arrested in Oklahoma, according to Champion’s uncle Mark Chambers.
Police say Haire fled from 79th and Hampton on Milwaukee’s northwest side October 20 after shooting Champion and two others. A warrant for Haire’s arrest was placed October 28.
“Getting the suspect in custody is a huge relief to me and to my family, as well as to the loved ones of the two young men who were shot.” said Chambers in a statement. “We want justice for Marquis and we also don’t want the suspect to be at large and in a position to harm someone else.”
Haire faces multiple charges including first-degree reckless homicide.
