MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Police are still searching for the suspect wanted in a shooting that killed the nephew of Alderman Mark Chambers Jr.
16-year-old Marquis Champion died in a triple shooting on Oct. 20 that left two other teenagers injured.
Champion was a student at Bay View High School.

“Marquis was full of life, and he brought joy to everyone around him,” Alderman Chambers said. “He wasn’t a troublemaker; he was a good kid with a bright spirit and a big heart. Losing him has left our family shattered.”
The suspect, 37-year-old Martell Haire of Milwaukee has been charged with one count of first-degree reckless homicide, two counts of first-degree reckless injury, one count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and one count of possession of a firearm as a felon.

According to a criminal complaint, surveillance video captures the sound of gunshots coming from a home near 79th St. and Hampton Ave. and shows Haire running across the street shortly after. Witnesses recall an argument between the victims and Haire leading up to the shooting, in which Haire referred to girls in the house as “women.”
Online court records show Haire has outstanding arrest warrants from 2023, for charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child and incest with a child.
If convicted of the shooting-related charges, Haire could face over 141 years in prison and fines up to $250,000.
“I’m asking for the community’s help in finding justice for Marquis,” Alderman Chambers said.
Anyone with any information on Haire’s whereabouts is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-Tips or P3 Tips.
