MADISON, Wis.— The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is alerting residents in Wisconsin about potential exposure to measles.
The DHS reported on Tuesday that it is working with both St. Croix County and Rock County Public Health offices about informing members who may have been in contact with an individual that was carrying the virus.
DHS says the individual that was exposed to measles was traveling from out of state.
Other potential sites where the individual may have spread possible exposure to measles include:
- Flying J Travel Center #470, 1191 70th Ave. Roberts, WI on Monday, August 4, 2025, between 7:15 a.m. and 10 a.m.
- Pilot Travel Center #289, 3001 Milwaukee Road, Beloit, WI on Monday, August 4, 2025, between 11:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
DHS says symptoms for measles only begin to show up 10-21 days after exposure.
Common symptoms do include: a runny nose, a high fever (may be greater than 104 F), excessive tiredness, coughing, red, watery eyes, or conjunctivitis (“pink eye”) and a red rash with raised bumps that starts at the hairline and moves to the arms and legs three to five days after symptoms begin.
Anyone who has seen signs of any such symptoms should isolate themselves immediately from the public to avoid spreading the exposure and seek the help of their medical provider.
The best way to get rid of measles is to be administered two shots of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine.
The MMR vaccine is available at area doctor’s offices or clinics, local health departments, and some local pharmacies. Those without health insurance, or whose insurance may not cover vaccines, may be able to get help from the Vaccines for Children and Vaccines for Adults programs.
