One suspect is dead following a shooting outside Kennedy Middle School in Germantown, authorities said late Monday. School was canceled for Tuesday.
Germantown police were called to the scene at around 6:40pm on a report of a subject acting erratically in the parking lot of the school, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice. When officers arrived, the suspect climbed onto the roof of the school. Two officers chased after the suspect before the subject fired shots at the officers. An officer returned fire and the suspect died at the scene.
At the time of the incident, 50-70 students were inside the school. Parents were later reunited with those students at MacArthur Elementary.
The officers involved were placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
