RACINE COUNTY, Wis. — A Racine County sheriff’s deputy was not injured after their squad car was struck by a passing vehicle Sunday, Jan. 3.
Law enforcement was responding to an accident involving a semi and a car along I-41/94 south, near State Highway 20.
Investigators say speed was a factor when the passing vehicle spun out on ice and struck the squad car, which had its emergency lights activated. The 27-year-old driver was not injured.
Deputies also responded to an injury accident in the same area when another vehicle spun out and struck the median. Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crashes and icy conditions led to a full shutdown of the southbound lanes for about three hours.
While the interstate was shut down, a 37-year-old man was arrested for OWI when he attempted to drive around deputies blocking traffic.
