LOUISVILLE- Considered one of the greatest players in college and professional football, ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap and WAVE TV are reporting that Packers Hall of Famer Paul Hornung has died.
The television station, based in Hornung’s home town of Louisville, Kentucky, says Horning was at his home when he passed.
Hornung spent three years at The University of Notre Dame where he played fullback, halfback, and safety. He would eventually become the first overall pick of the Packers in the 1957 NFL Draft.
During his time in Green Bay Hornug played an instrumental role in four championship seasons (1961, 1962, 1965, 1966).
Hornung was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame a year later in 1986. In 2010, an award named in his honor also started being handed out to the most versatile college football player in the nation.
Fellow teammate Jerry Kramer shares his experiences with Hornung on WTMJ Nights. Listen to the full interview above.
