Disciplinary charges have been filed by the outgoing Executive Director of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission against Milwaukee Police officer Michael Mattioli.
In a statement by Griselda Aldrete, she consulted with the Milwaukee City’s Attorney’s office after the commission completed an “independent, unbiased and thorough investigation regarding potential Code of Conduct violations by Police Officer Mattioli that ultimately led to the death of Mr. Joel Acevedo.”
The disciplinary charges include a potential Code of Conduct violation related to the Integrity, Respect and Violation of MPD Standard Operating Procedure 450.65(B)(1)-Fire and Police Commission Investigations.
“These are serious charges,” says Aldrete, “and a young man was tragically and violently killed. We will continue to pursue this process thoroughly and appropriately, guided as always by the principles of justice and accountability that must drive every action at the FPC.”
A disciplinary trial has been referred, which will include evidence, the opportunity to call witnesses and a chance for Mattioli to speak. Aldrete says Mattioli will receive the full process he is due back on the rules of the Fire and Police Commission, Milwaukee Police and federal and state law.
Details on the trial will be made public in the near future.
Mattioli remains on full suspension as he faces criminal charges for the death of Acevedo. Acevedo was injured at Mattioli’s home on April 19, and died on April 25.
