A jury has found a man from Whitefish Bay guilty of shooting and killing the mother of a young man she was teaching to drive.
Matthew Wilks found out his fate Tuesday in a courtroom in Milwaukee.
The case stems from August 30, 2019 when, as TMJ4 News recounted, Tracey Smith’s son was behind the wheel as he was turning left. Wilks struck their vehicle after cutting them off.
“The person who hit us, telling my mom, ‘shut the (expletive) up,’ ” Caleb Smith said, according to TMJ4 News. ” ‘And (expletive) I’ll kill you’ … he shot my mom.”
Wllks’ lawyers questioned that testimony, claiming Tracey made her own threats, but numerous witnesses said Wilks made the only threats.
The defendant now faces up to life in prison.
