A firefighter was injured and a shed filled with fresh produce was destroyed during a fire in the Town of Jackson on Friday, November 22, 2019.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says the blaze broke out around 8:15 a.m. inside of a metal shed used for retail space on the Witte Vegetable Farm.
The fire was contained to the shed, but the entire structured was destroyed, including more than $10,000 worth of fresh produce.
The total loss is estimated to be around $100,000.
The cause of the fire is unknown but it does not appear to be suspicious, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
A Newburg firefighter sustained “minor injuries” while battling the fire, according to the sheriff’s office.
That firefighter was treated at the scene and released.
