The top executive of Visit Milwaukee who helped secure the Democratic National Convention for 2020 in the Brew City is ending his tenure there.
Paul Upchurch will step down at the end of 2019, according to a news release. He said he will stay to help with their effort to expand the Wisconsin Center, while Visit Milwaukee searches for a new president and CEO.
“It’s been a privilege to lead this amazing organization that is critical to the future of our city,” said Upchurch. “After more than nine years, it’s the right time for me to pass the torch to the next leader.”
The city’s tourism spending grew from $1.6 billion in 2011 to double that total last year, according to the news release.
