They won the only game they played last week, but it was not enough to keep Marquette in the Associated Press Top 10.
Though they went on the road and blew out DePaul 92-73 in Chicago on Wednesday, Marquette’s men dropped from the No. 10 slot to number 11 in the newest Top 25 poll.
Perhaps the biggest reason for Marquette’s drop has to do with the schedule: They didn’t play any weekend games.
Every team in the top 10 did, including Michigan State which leapfrogged Marquette with its weekend win over Ohio State.
The only team to lose this weekend in top 10 action was Tennessee, which lost its No. 1 ranking after a Saturday night loss at Tennessee.
Wisconsin also lost both a game and a pair of places in the poll. They’re now No. 22 after falling to Michigan State Tuesday. The Badgers also had the weekend off, which may have hurt their standing in the poll.
The Marquette women are also expected to drop in the poll after their loss at St. John’s Friday, 81-74.
