More than a dozen parks in the City of Milwaukee will have their Fourth of July events halted for 2020 in the wake of coronavirus and its effect on the community.
The city announced it was canceling parades, fireworks and similar events, with a re-start of them planned for 2021.
“After 40 plus years of being involved in the 4th of July celebration this is a tough decision but the only right one,” Fourth of July Commission Chair, Cheryl Cieciwa said in a statement.
“We are disappointed we will not be gathering with our friends and neighbors to celebrate the 4th this year, but we look forward to resuming this cherished Milwaukee tradition in 2021.”
The news comes on the same day as the halting of the July 3 lakefront fireworks, which draw hundreds of thousands to the area every year.
