MILWAUKEE — A man from Racine with multiple warrants now faces 10 felony charges after leading police on two chases, stealing a Wauwatosa Police squad car, and injuring four officers.
26-year-old Giontae Dixon is being charged with:
- Operating a Motor Vehicle to Flee or in an Attempt to Flee (Oak Creek)
- Attempt Theft, Value not Exceeding $2,500 (Brown Deer)
- Operating a Motor Vehicle to Flee or in an Attempt to Flee (Wauwatosa)
- First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety (Wauwatosa) — three counts total
- Carjacking – Use or Threat of Force (Wauwatosa)
- First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety (Wauwatosa)
- Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer Resulting in Bodily Harm (Wauwatosa)
- Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer Causing Damage to Property (Wauwatosa)
Wauwatosa police responded to the Mayfair Mall parking lot around 10:05 a.m. on February 3 after observing a man, later identified as Dixon, who had been directed by mall security to leave the property. When Dixon turned back toward the mall entrance, the officer advised him to continue leaving, and Dixon went to a white minivan parked in the lot.
The officer checked the license plate, which showed that the car was involved in a domestic violence incident and car chase with the Oak Creek Police Department earlier that morning, as well as separate vehicle pursuit with the Brown Deer Police Department.
When the officer then tried to stop the car from leaving, Dixon allegedly fled, initiating a new chase. Police report they gave commands for him to stop, but then he “exited the minivan and ran toward an unoccupied Wauwatosa Police squad. As officers attempted to arrest him, [Dixon] entered the squad. [He] shifted the squad into reverse and accelerated, knocking several officers to the ground and striking an occupied Wauwatosa Police squad”.
This started a second chase with the now-stolen squad car, with Dixon allegedly driving through
side streets and residential yards before crashing into another Wauwatosa Police squad near W. North Avenue and San Fernando Drive. He did flee on foot, but was arrested shortly afterwards. Following the crash, he fled on foot but was quickly arrested.
Four Wauwatosa Police officers were taken to the hospital for their injuries, but all are now back at work.
The earlier domestic violence incident reported in Oak Creek and vehicle chase in Brown Deer both remain under review.
There are additional charges pending with the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office.
