People who drive Highway 11 on Racine’s southwest side will need to plan for a long-term road project that begins Monday, March 30, 2020.
The Wisconsin DOT says work of the state highway will take place from Highway 31 east to Kentucky Street, running through the summer of 2021.
Parts of the project include new road surface, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and storm sewer laterals, replacing street lights and signs, and adding sidewalks where they do not currently exist.
When completed, the highway will have two traffic lanes in each direction, on-street bike accommodations and sidewalks.
The project will reduce traffic on Highway 11 to one lane in each direction, along with prohibiting thru traffic across neighboring streets. The intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 31 will remain open.
