MILWAUKEE — A child and an adult are seriously injured after an apartment fire on Milwaukee’s west side late Monday morning.
The fire broke out on the first floor of the three-story building shortly after 11 a.m. near 31st St. and Wells St. Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski said both victims suffered severe smoke inhalation and are currently in critical condition.
Fire officials also confirmed the building had a working smoke alarm system but no sprinkler system in place.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and it’s not yet clear how many residents were affected or displaced. Chief Lipski also explained that there was a troubling gaining entry into the building, which could have caused grave danger to all, but everyone was able to make it out in less than two minutes.
This is a developing story. We’ll update with more details as they become available.
