The COVID-19 pandemic has reportedly forced the Olympic Games to push back the 2020 Tokyo Summer Games to a later time, possibly next year.
According to a report by Christine Brennan of USA TODAY, IOC member Dick Pound says the Games will be pushed back, possibly to 2021, though no specific dates have been set.
“On the basis of the information the IOC has, postponement has been decided,” Pound told Brennan.
“The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on July 24, that much I know.”
Numerous Olympic committees, including Pound’s home nation of Canada, said they would not send teams to Tokyo if the Games went on schedule – a start date of July 24.
Almost all major American and international sports leagues have postponed or halted their competition in some fashion.
