Welcome to Jaytalking, edition 37! This is a special WTMJ Conversations edition with an extended version of our talk with Milwaukee Bucks legend and TV color commentator Marques Johnson.
His journey is one of place, and how place and experience has taught incredible lessons to the longtime Bucks forward from the late 70’s and early 80’s. Johnson talked in-depth about growing up in Louisiana and the racism of the deep south, his family’s escape to California to help him find a future through education, and his experience playing for John Wooden at UCLA.
Then came his time in Milwaukee, a city he struggled to understand after a decade and a half of life at UCLA. But it became a city he eventually fell in love with – and one he decided to come back to after 31 years, as a broadcaster for Fox Sports Wisconsin.
Marques shares his love of the Brew City in so many different understandings, all stemming from an engaging conversation with a most engaging man.
