Two Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputies were injured after the squad vehicle they were in was struck by a vehicle while at a crash scene on I-43 Sunday morning.
The sheriff’s office says the squad was blocking one lane of I-43 southbound at Port Washington Road around 9:21 a.m. when it was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound.
Inside the squad were two deputies, both in the front seats of the vehicle, and a civilian in a back seat. The deputy in the front passenger seat was taken to a hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury. The deputy in the driver’s seat was injured, but did not required treatment. The civilian was not injured.
An investigation by the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office found the vehicle that struck the squad was driving too fast for conditions. That driver was cited.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office says this is the fourth accident in the past 23 days involving one of their deputies or vehicles. They are encouraging all motorists to drive at speeds that are appropriate for the current road conditions, and to move over and slow down for emergency vehicles on or along the side of the road with their flashing lights on.
