Reports indicate that the Big Ten will postpone the football season. That would mean no Badgers’ games at Camp Randall this fall.
If true, that would have a big impact on the downtown business community.
“It is a vital piece of what makes our businesses successful,” says Tiffany Kenney, executive director of the Downtown Madison Central Business Improvement District.
She tells WTMJ that nearly 70% of their customers come downtown for events.
“I am really concerned for the businesses in downtown businesses and those businesses adjacent to Camp Randall. I think all of us will be impacted if those games don’t come to fruition.”
Losing six big shopping Saturdays is tough news on top of an already rough year.
“We’re not sure how that will shake out for our small businesses who are already struggling through the layers of COVID or civil unrest that has impacted downtown.”
