Wisconsin's Tourism Secretary-designee knows her future is partially out of her hands.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said last week “there's a storm brewing on Sara Meaney” during an interview with John Mercure on Wisconsin's Afternoon News.
“There's a couple of different stories floating out there…that has her in the position of trying to manipulate the tourism board,” said Fitzgerald. “I don't have any facts on that…there's press reports that are coming out that [it's] happening.”
Governor Evers' secretary of administration, Joel Brennan, said that what Fitzgerald was referring to was just a minor procedural mistake.
“Over the last ten months there was an occasion on which they did things the wrong way,” said Brennan. “The precedent for doing this was set in the previous administration by her predecessor. Sara owns the fact that they did this wrong. They're fixing it and they're moving forward.”
On Wisconsin's Afternoon News with John Mercure Monday, Meaney responded to Senator Fitzgerald.
“I'm just going to let my work and results speak for themselves,” said Meaney. “If people want to swirl around and come up with a different agenda, that doesn't have a whole lot to do with me.”
Fitzgerald also accused the travel secretary of politicizing the department of tourism.
“I'm not a political person, I'm a business person,” said Meaney. “That's where my time and energy has been focused. I respect his opinion, but I think the numbers tell a very different story.”
There is no timetable on when the senate will vote on Sec. Meaney's confirmation.
