Tommy John surgery repairs the ligament with a tendon from another part of the body, per Johns Hopkins.
If surgery is immediate, it would normally be estimated for Suter to miss the rest of 2018, but potentially come back in 2019 – a six to nine month recovery.
However, Johns Hopkins explains that it can take longer than nine months, even longer than one year, before a return to action for competitive athletes.
