Eight straight wins, taking a team from the brink of the NCAA Tournament bubble to the Big Ten regular season championship, all after losing one of your major offensive weapons.
That’s how you win a conference Coach of the Year nod, and that’s what Greg Gard has received from both Big Ten media and journalists.
Gard received each award Monday after directing the Badgers’ comeback to a 21-10 record, a 14-6 conference nod and a shared conference championship.
The current streak of victories happened after the departure of Kobe King from the program, which turned out to be a pathway to Nebraska.
But the season began amidst tragedy with the loss of numerous family members of assistant coach Howard Moore. He sustained numerous major injuries, and had to miss the season after numerous complications,
Coach Gard shared his emotions and how he will share the title with Moore.
