Milwaukee, WI — In the wake of recent severe storms and flooding, The Salvation Army is continuing its emergency response across Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties. Streets remain damaged, basements are flooded, and hundreds of families are left facing the difficult task of cleanup and recovery.
The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team has been on the ground since the storms hit by providing meals, water, spiritual care, and emotional support. Teams are also working inside both State and County Emergency Operations Centers to coordinate efforts with Wisconsin Emergency Management and local partners.
“Our neighbors are hurting, and every flood kit represents relief, dignity, and hope for a family beginning the recovery process,” said Benny Benedict, The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services Director, in a recent interview on Wisconsin’s Afternoon News. “We’re here not just to meet physical needs, but to walk alongside people spiritually and emotionally as they recover.”
Flood kits are among the most urgently needed resources right now. These kits — buckets filled with essential cleaning supplies — help families safely begin cleaning their homes and salvaging what they can. Each kit includes disinfectant cleaner, scrub brushes, mops, brooms, trash bags, gloves, masks, and more.
The Salvation Army reports that their current stock is running low and at least 500 to 1,000 additional flood kits are needed immediately. Each kit costs just $30 to assemble.
