American doctors are working in a bad system and it’s hurting patients, according to Dr. Marty Makary, surgeon and professor of health policy at Johns Hopkins University.
“This predatory billing and price gauging is threatening the great public trust in American medicine,” Makary told WTMJ’s John Mercure on Wisconsin’s Afternoon News Tuesday.
In an anonymous survey, 2,300 doctors replied that, on average, they believe 21 percent of everything done in medicine is unnecessary.
“The opioid crisis is really just an over treatment crisis around one medication,” he said. “There are other drugs like opioids that are being overused right now.”
Makary believes much of the healthcare system is wasteful, and it’s costing patients. To hear more, listen to their conversation above.
