TWO RIVERS, Wis. — Police in Manitowoc County identify the body found in the water as 16-year-old Payton Vertz of Two Rivers.
Officers responded in the evening on October 16 to reports of a human body in the water on the south side of the harbor near Seagull Marina in Two Rivers.
They arrested one person in connection to their initial investigation, and another was already in custody in what police call an “unrelated” case.
Police also confirmed an official GoFundMe to support the family, after warning the public initially of false information spreading on social media about the victim and the suspects, along with fake fundraising pages.
Vertz’s cause of death has not yet been released, as the investigation is ongoing.
