MILWAUKEE — The woman accused of driving the car that led to a Milwaukee police arrest where an officer was seen “punching” another person now faces a battery charge.
20-year-old Kennedy Gray faces one felony count of battery to a public officer tied to a traffic stop on October 8 near N. Palmer Street and E. Keefe Avenue on Milwaukee’s north side.
Milwaukee Police say they stopped the car because of a license plate violation, and that passengers were observed not wearing seatbelts.
Court documents obtained by 620 WTMJ indicate that Gray was the driver of the car when it was stopped by officers, and that “Gray and the other [two] occupants immediately became belligerent and argumentative, so for their safety the officers told the occupants to exit the car. The occupants refused, so the officers sought to remove them”.
As officers were trying to remove them from the car, Gray observed one trying to arrest her front-seat passenger, then “[she] ran towards [the officer] and kicked him in the head. As result of the kicks to the head, [the officer] suffered pain and head impact that was diagnosed at a hospital as a concussion”.
Gray made her initial appearance in court on October 14. If convicted, she faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison.
