MILWAUKEE – If you’re heading to the Brewers this weekend, or using I-94 or I-43 (Rock Fwy), there are a few construction details worth knowing before you leave.
Brewers traffic plan keeps I-94 open overnight
WisDOT is keeping the I-94 construction schedule lighter during the Brewers’ start of Post-Season play Saturday and Sunday.
“Our projects do not have any overnight closures this weekend,” WisDOT spokesperson Eric Hanson says.
The current traffic pattern remains in place for people traveling to and from American Family Field from the west.
“We ask that you plan ahead, allow a little bit of extra time,” he says.
Suggested routes into and out of the stadium are available at brewers.com/parking.
Work continues on the I-94 East-West project
The east leg of the project remains focused on the next stage of work at the 27th Street Bridge.
“Construction continues on the 27th Street Bridge, finalizing some underground work for the middle piers for the new bridge, getting those drilled shafts out of the ground here and continuing some column work,” Hanson says.
The west leg is also moving toward its next stage near the cemetery section.
“And then over on the west leg, we did complete the concrete paving for our current stage for eastbound in that section,” Hanson says.
Crews now plan to add asphalt and temporary connections before the traffic pattern changes. Hanson says WisDOT expects to provide more information next week once the timing is finalized.
New I-43 project begins near Alpine Valley
Another stretch of I-43 is joining the long-term rebuilding program in southeast Wisconsin.
“This new project will be starting up here, it’ll continue south from [the current] project. So it’ll actually start at Highway 83 and continue south about 10 miles to Bowers Road,” Hanson says.
Preparation begins the week of Oct. 5. Periodic overnight lane and ramp closures are expected through November while crews work on emergency pullouts, temporary shoulders and ramp widening.
The larger construction phase begins in spring 2027 and is expected to continue through summer 2029.
The project includes replacing the concrete pavement from the full depth of the roadway.
“So by the end of the program, we’ll have all new pavement out there on the rock freeway,” Hanson says.
