UPDATE 9/23/26 at 1:00p.m. — A 16-year-old student is now in custody after a weapons incident at Oshkosh North High School.
City of Oshkosh Police Department Public Information Officer Kate Mann said in a brief update that a school resource officer was told by a staff member the student may be in possession of a gun around 9:30 a.m. on September 23. When police arrested the student, a gun was found in their backpack.
“The school resource officer at North High School was able to locate the student and get him into custody within 20 minutes of the initial call. The handgun was located in the student’s backpack, and the student was wearing the backpack,” said Mann.
Police said a separate 17-year-old student may also have had a gun, but that student was not located during an evacuation of the school, nor was a second gun found during a sweep.
Mann said another update is expected later this afternoon.
UPDATE 9/23/26 at 12:15p.m. — Students and staff are safe following an active police incident at Oshkosh North High School.
Our news partners at NBC26 report police have one person in custody following an hours-long presence after a report of a person with a weapon.
According to an alert sent out to parents, the school building was cleared and reunification has started, with pick-up taking place at Oshkosh West.
Parents are told to check their emails for full pick-up instructions.
