CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. — A case of measles has been confirmed in a resident of Chippewa County.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services say they are working to identify who else has been exposed, because it’s unknown where the resident contracted the disease.
This latest case is unrelated to the outbreak in Southwest Wisconsin.
Health officials say members of the public should monitor for symptoms, which usually occur around 10 days after exposure.
Symptoms include:
- Runny nose
- High fever
- Red rash
- Fatigue
- Cough
Health officials also recommend checking vaccination status, as the MMR vaccine is over 97% effective at preventing measles.
As of September 18, the state has seen a confirmed 167 cases.
