APPLETON, Wis.– A teenager was arrested for theft after allegedly breaking into cars and stealing money in Appleton.

According to the Appleton Police Department, officers responded to reports of a suspicious person near Bennett and Winnebago around 11:21 p.m. on August 18.

Officers found three teens between the ages of 13 and 15 years old near Locust and Winnebago.

Police reviewed security footage from a nearby home that showed a male walking in the homeowner’s driveway. One of the teenager’s backpack and clothing matched the individual in the video.

Investigators found that the one teenager had been allegedly breaking into unlocked cars and taking cash from inside.

During the investigation, the teen could not remember the number of cars broken into or the location of the cars. The one teen was taken to Juvenile Intake for theft and was later released.

The other teenagers were returned to their guardians as well.

Police recommend removing valuables from cars and always locking doors to avoid break-ins.
