MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Wisconsin residents affected by severe storms and flooding in April have two weeks remaining to apply for federal disaster assistance.
Wisconsin Emergency Management says the deadline to apply for FEMA assistance or a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) home disaster loan is August 31.
Homeowners and renters in 20 Wisconsin counties and the Oneida Nation may qualify if they suffered uninsured damage to their primary residence, lost personal property or had other disaster-related emergency expenses from storms and flooding between April 13 and April 23.
Eligible counties include Milwaukee, Racine, Washington and Waukesha counties.
Officials stress that residents must complete a FEMA application even if a FEMA assessment team previously visited their home or they reported damage through 211.
FEMA assistance may also be available to repair or replace furnaces and water heaters damaged by flooding. Residents who received a grant for repairs but later learned equipment needs to be replaced can appeal for additional assistance.
Applicants generally have 60 days from the date of a FEMA decision letter to file an appeal.
Businesses affected by the April storms also have until August 31 to apply for SBA physical disaster loans.
