MADISON, Wis. — State health officials have confirmed two new cases of measles in southwest Wisconsin.
The cases were detected through testing at the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene in a person from Iowa County and a person from Lafayette County, according to an August 11 news release. The cases are believed to have been exposed in Wisconsin, suggesting there may be additional measles cases in communities that have not yet been identified.
Public health officials are working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed to the measles virus. So far, no public exposure locations have been identified.
Four Wisconsin residents have contracted measles so far in 2026. The two previous cases were confirmed in Waukesha County and at UW-Madison in late January and early February, respectively. Also in January, a passenger on a flight passing through Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport also had measles.
There have been 2,465 confirmed measles cases in the US this year, according to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control.
