WEST BEND, Wis. — Washington County has officially completed the sale of the former University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Washington County campus to Ozaukee Christian School/FaithRidge, paving the way for the property to reopen as a private school.
County officials say the sale returns the campus to active use, eliminates ongoing maintenance costs for taxpayers and provides a permanent home for the growing school.
“This sale puts the property back to productive use, ends the County’s ongoing costs to maintain it and allows a local school to move forward with plans that will benefit children and families in Washington County,” County Executive Josh Schoemann and County Board Chair Jeffrey Schleif said in a joint statement.
Ozaukee Christian School/FaithRidge Executive Director Chris Bergstresser said the organization is excited to begin a new chapter on the campus.
“We are excited about how God is going to use this building as a beacon of light in our community,” said Bergstresser.
The school had already been preparing the building for occupancy under earlier agreements with the county and plans to begin classes there this fall.
The sale follows a June 26 court ruling in which a Washington County judge denied a request for an injunction that would have blocked the transaction.
