MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Fired Wisconsin Center District President and CEO Marty Brooks plans to appeal he district board’s decision last month to fire him with cause, and he wants a public hearing to dispute claims made against him that led to the decision.
Brooks is requesting the hearing to dispute charges he misused district money for personal purchases and campaign contributions, allegations which led to his firing June 8. That hearing is scheduled to occur during a special session of the board July 22, and Brooks has requested it be held in open session rather than closed, which would be the normal proceeding for a personnel matter. The district tells WTMJ it intends to honor Brooks’ request.
“At this time, the Board’s focus remains on the contractual process outlined in the President and CEO’s employment agreement. That process is ongoing, and Marty Brooks remains on administrative leave,” said a district spokesperson in an email.
Brooks was given a 30-day window to appeal the board’s June 8 vote to fire him which expired July 8. After his firing was publicly announced, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, and Milwaukee Common Council President Jose Perez each indicated they received campaign contributions from Brooks via a credit card.
The Wisconsin Center District oversees operations of the Baird Convention Center, the Miller High Life Theatre, and the UWM Panther Arena in downtown Milwaukee.
