A five-hour-long standoff took place in Cudahy Saturday, resulting in the arrest of one person.
Cudahy Police Chief Thomas Poellot says his department received a 911 call around 11:15 a.m. from a home on the 5600 block of South Illinois Avenue.
“The incident stemmed from a domestic situation,” says Poellot. “A female and two children were able to safely get out of the house. The call came in that there was an armed subject remaining in the house, a 34-year-old male.”
Police tried multiple times to negotiate with the suspect to have him taken into custody peacefully, but they were unsuccessful. That required the use of a no-knock search warrant to get inside.
“The South Shore Joint Tactical Unit did execute that search warrant at approximately 4:20 p.m.,” says Poellot. “The subject was safely taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.”
The standoff ended with minutes to spare to avoid any interference with the city’s Trick or Treat hours, which was scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m.
