Advocate Aurora Health has fired the employee responsible for removing over 500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from a refrigerator after learning the person did it deliberately.
Aurora says the 57 vials of the Moderna vaccine were taken out at their Grafton medical center, forcing them to be thrown out.
An internal review first came to the conclusion that the action was due to “inadvertent human error.” That changed when the person responsible said they intentionally removed the vaccine.
In a statement, Advocate Aurora Health says:
“We continue to believe that vaccination is our way out of the pandemic. We are more than disappointed that this individual’s actions will result in a delay of more than 500 people receiving their vaccine. This was a violation of our core values, and the individual is no longer employed by us.”
Aurora adds additional investigations may take place.
