The leader of Milwaukee’s protest movement is headed east to the nation’s Capital.
Frank Nitty is beginning the nearly 800-mile trek today.
“I know it’s gonna be hard, but it’s something I gotta do.”
Walking approximately 30 miles a day, he’s set to arrive in DC on August 28.
“It’s the 57th anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King ‘I Have a Dream’ speech,” Nitty tells WTMJ. “A lot of people started to call to have everyone fly out and march in DC. So I really wanted to go, and then I was like ‘you know what, I think I want to march there to honor him.’”
Nitty tells WTMJ the decision to make the trek was made in June.
“I just felt like God put it in my heart to do this and to bring national attention to everything going on in Milwaukee.”
Nitty has led marches through Milwaukee for the past two months. He says those efforts will continue in his absence.
“We’ll be able to still apply pressure on everything we want to here, while we apply pressure across the country as we march.”
