Season two of the show “Betting on Beloit” is now airing on A&E. The star of the show, Konya Hendricks Schuh joined Wisconsin’s Midday News to discuss the new season, which follows her team’s efforts to restore historic homes and what sets it apart from other home renovation series.
“Some renovation shows tackle projects for homeowners and whether it just be a room or more of the cosmetic updates,” Schuh said. “We buy houses and typically… we need to gut and take down to the studs.”
Schuh said they do the deep renovations and the cosmetic updates while trying to maintain the historical integrity of the house.
But to Schuh, the home renovations on the show tell a bigger story.
“We’re renovating houses, but we’re revitalizing the community,” Schuh said.
Schuh also acknowledged critics that say the show focuses too much on homes that “more of an executive price point.” But she said this season features a home renovation for Acts Housing, the first time home buyer program in Milwaukee and Rock Counties.
