MILWAUKEE — Gas prices in Milwaukee have not climbed yet, but one GasBuddy analyst says drivers could see increases in the coming days after oil, gasoline and diesel prices rose sharply this week.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, joined Wisconsin’s Midday News to discuss how tensions involving the U.S. and Iran, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries are affecting global fuel markets.
“What happens in oil markets today gets filtered down to what stations are paying tonight,” De Haan said. “Now stations are already paying a higher price than they were earlier this week, so they haven’t passed it along yet. And that’s why, as an analyst, I can say, ‘it’s coming.'”
Milwaukee gas prices were averaging about $3.60 per gallon on Wednesday, while the national average was nearing $3.90. That remains below the national spike seen in May, when AAA reported the average price for a gallon of regular gas reached $4.56.
