Gary Sinise is best known for his roles in Forrest Gump, Apollo 13 and CSI New York. He’s also an accomplished musician, leading the Lt. Dan band in concerts across the country raising money for veteran charities.
This past weekend, Sinise was in Milwaukee on a very personal mission.
Two years ago, Sinise’s son Mac passed away from a very rare form of cancer, called Chordoma. Mac was only 33 years old. Mac was a composer, releasing an album titled “Resurrection and Revival.” After Mac’s death, Sinise found lots of unpublished music on his son’s computer, iPad, and phone. Sinise spent the last two years turning the music into two more albums.
Sinise narrated two concerts this weekend at Skylight Music Theatre that featured his son’s discovered music and a full orchestra.
Gary Sinise also recently voiced a remastered version of the documentary “Sijan” which chronicles the life and death of Bayview Medal of Honor recipient Lance Sijan. The new film was shown Sunday at the War Memorial Center, where Sinise met with movie-goers.
I had the chance to talk to Sinise about the music, the movie and all the good work his foundation, The Gary Sinise Foundation, does for our veterans.
