MILWAUKEE — As families prepare for a night of costumes and candy, experts say Halloween is not only risky for kids crossing the street, it is also one of the most dangerous nights of the year to be on the road.
Morgan Ryan, an expert in drunk driving accountability, joined Wisconsin’s Afternoon News with Julia Fello and John Mercure to talk about the dangers behind the wheel on Halloween. Especially with the rise of what is called the “wine mom culture” which started during the pandemic as a lighthearted but trend of using alcohol to cope with daily stress but continues to grow at a concerning rate. Ryan explained how social pressures or stress might be factors which could to push many to women drink more than they realize.
“Halloween has become one of the biggest drinking holidays of the year,” Ryan said. “For many adults, it’s about the parties.”
Ryan is the Marketing Director of Smart Start, the nation’s leading ignition interlock provider, and is recognized for bringing a more human approach to conversations about impaired driving.
Ryan adds that awareness is key. “No one plans to cause harm,” she said. “But one bad decision can change lives forever. Use the tools available.”
