Steve Scaffidi and Kristin Brey kicked off Thursday’s show with a heated conversation about trust in science — specifically following reports that the Centers for Disease Control delayed releasing a study highlighting the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Steve didn’t hold back, questioning whether leadership at the Department of Health and Human Services — including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — played a role in the delay. Kristin pointed to the broader issue of declining trust in institutions, particularly when it comes to public health. As Steve put it, “Nothing is static when it comes to science.”
They opened the talk and text line and heard from listeners on both sides of the issue, responding to criticism while continuing to ask a central question: what would it actually take for skeptics to trust scientific guidance again?
Later in the hour, the conversation shifted to local politics as Waukesha mayor-elect Alicia Halvensleben joined the show. Fresh off her election win, Halvensleben discussed preparing to take office, learning from outgoing Mayor Sean Reilly, and what priorities she plans to focus on once sworn in.

In the second hour, City Stories with Urban Milwaukee’s Jeramey Jannene covered a wide range of local developments. That included new mobile payment options for Milwaukee County Transit System riders, a look back at voter turnout from last week’s election, and questions about whether bringing Michelin Guide inspectors to Milwaukee will actually boost tourism.
Jeramey also provided updates on major infrastructure projects, including the future of I-794, new efforts to combat reckless driving, and Milwaukee’s move toward becoming a sensory-inclusive city. The segment wrapped with discussions on changes to Tax Incremental Financing districts and a proposal requiring grocery stores to give advance notice before closing.
