Shop and dine locally in Galesville (Trempealeau County)
Explore Galesville’s Downtown Historic District at the Galesville Farmer’s Market. From 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday mornings through October, you can shop for locally produced fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers and plants, Amish-baked goods, jams and jellies, syrup and handmade jewelry and crafts.
After a morning of shopping, enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal in a musical environment, at Garden Of Eatin’. With musical instruments and memorabilia covering the inside you’ll be eatin’ good and feeling the groove. Stop in for breakfast to try their corned beef hash or homemade pies, both of which are local favorites.
While you’re near Galesville, head to the nearby town of Blair to visit Tenba Ridge Winery. The Winery’s scenic wine terrace and deck overlooks thousands of acres of woods from its bluff-top location; it’s a true hidden gem.
Head to Cedarburg to witness incredible handwoven art displays (Ozaukee County)
The Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts in Cedarburg is one of the most unique and stunning museums in Wisconsin. Located just east of historic downtown Cedarburg, it’s dedicated to educating the public about the artistic, cultural, historic and social importance of quilts and fiber arts.
The museum has documented over 8,000 quilts and even has workshops for all skill levels, in case you’re inspired by some of the larger-than-life patterns and designs.
After the museum, drive to nearby Mequon for a delicious dinner at Café Corazon. This Latin-inspired, farm-to-table restaurant located in the Mequon Public Market is home to some of the area’s best burritos and margaritas! If you’re looking for a great breakfast, come back in the morning to try the breakfast tostadas. Plenty of gluten-free and vegan/vegetarian options are also available.
Stay in Cedarburg for the weekend at The Stagecoach Inn, one of city’s oldest and most charming hotels. Built in 1853 as an actual stagecoach stop between Milwaukee and Green Bay, it continues to be a hot stopover spot for visitors looking to make the most of their stay in downtown Cedarburg.
Kayak the Pine River near Richland Center (Richland County)
With 84,000 miles of rivers and streams, paddling is incredible way to discover Wisconsin’s hidden gems. In Richland Center, you’ll want to check out the northern, or the Rockbridge stretch, of the Pine River for amazing views of rock outcroppings. The river also flows right through Richland Center, and it’s a great perspective to take in the town from the seat of a canoe or kayak.
