HARTLAND, Wis.–A 50-year-old woman from Hartland was arrested after an alleged swatting call sent the community into lockdown.
The Waukesha County Communications dispatch center received a call from the woman around 12:56 p.m. on August 26. The woman claimed she was being held hostage at gunpoint in her apartment in Hartland.
Police arrived at the scene near Campus and Willow and set up a perimeter around the area. The Suburban Critical Incident Team (SCIT) and local Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team were also called to the scene.
The WCC sent out a message asking the nearby community to seek shelter due to the situation. Additionally, Lake Country Lutheran High School was placed on lockdown due to its proximity to the caller’s apartment.
Investigators later determined that the woman was alone inside the apartment and there was no evidence to support that she was held at gunpoint by someone.
According to the Hartland Police, the woman was arrested, and she will be charged with disorderly conduct and felony level swatting.
The Hartland Police Department are still investigating.
