MILWAUKEE, Wis. – On the final day before the Major League Baseball trade deadline, the Milwaukee Brewers are expanding their pitching depth courtesy of a deal with a NL Central rival.
Multiple outlets are reporting the Brewers will acquire starter Dustin May and reliever JoJo Romero from St. Louis. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal was first to report the deal.
MLB.com Brewers beat writer Adam McCalvy reports the Brewers are sending outfield prospects Alexander Frias and Josiah Ragsdale to St. Louis in the trade. The two are the Brewers farm system’s 11th and 13th-ranked prospects, respectively. Neither team has confirmed the reported deal.
May has a 5-7 record with a 4.38 earned run average and 106 strikeouts in 21 games started for the Cardinals in 2026. He also took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Brewers May 27 at American Family Field.
Romero is recovering from an emergency appendectomy after being placed on the 15-day injured list with appendicitis in mid-July and is expected to return to action later this month.
Both players are expected to become free agents at the end of the season.
