WEST BEND, Wis. — One person was killed and another person was seriously injured after a crash between a vehicle and a box truck in West Bend on Saturday.
Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to U.S. Highway 45 and the Park Avenue overpass around 7:21 a.m. on Oct. 25 to reports of a vehicle overturned on its roof and a box truck in the median.
Deputies found one man bleeding from his head and being assisted by a bystander who had stopped at the scene. The driver of the box truck reported head, neck, and lower-back pain.
The sheriff’s office says a driver was traveling westbound on Park Avenue when his vehicle left the roadway to the right, crashed through a fence at the top of the overpass, and became airborne. The vehicle then hit a box truck on Highway 45 that was merging from Highway 33/Washington Street.
The 45-year-old man driving the first vehicle later died at the hospital.
The driver of the box truck, a 59-year-old man from Theresa, was taken to the hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit.
